Costa Rica WILD: ART in the Jungle
Painting, Mosaic, Adventure
January 14 – 21, 2024
Rain, snow, sleet, gloom … does anyone really love January? We Do! We Do! Grab your shorts and escape the cold in tropical Costa Rica for a fabulous exploration of color and shape in the jungle. You’re welcome!
So here we go: not only do we have an endless amount of nature waiting for you, but the best local food you’ll find, and OH! The Adventures!

WHERE
Our home base will be lovely Finca Luna Nueva, a sustainable forest ecolodge and organic farm in the volcanic highlands, nestled among both primary and secondary rainforest and adjacent to the Children’s Eternal Rainforest. About 72 miles from San Jose and 15 miles from Mt. Arenal, the farm includes comfortable cabins, a poolside dining hall with three farm-to-table organic meals daily, open-air studio, ozonated chlorine-free pool, solar-heated jacuzzi, bar area, yoga pavilion and spa.

Morning Bird Watching!
PROGRAM
Our program is suitable for painters, mosaic artists, and those who want to dabble a bit in both — novices welcome! We’ll present lessons on pattern, scale, shape, color, and freestyle work all inspired by the jungle around us. Our emphasis will be on interpreting the colors and forms of our environment into art as vibrant as our surroundings. Bring your favorite materials and get ready to dive in.

THE SCOOP
Our program is suitable for painters, mosaic artists, and those who want to dabble in a bit in both or make their own brand of art — novices welcome! Inspired by the jungle around us, our emphasis will be on interpreting the colors and forms of our environment into art as vibrant as our surroundings. Choose your medium, bring your favorite materials, and create as much as you like — lighting is available for our open air studio into the night.
During free time, you might choose to continue art projects, enjoy the grounds and pool, grab a smoothie and head for the hammock, join an on-site bird watching tour, schedule a massage, or make transportation arrangements in the office for any number of local adventure activities.
In addition to on-site fun, we’ll schedule at least one activity off-site. We’ll also have plenty of suggestions for those who want to take full advantage of their time here.

About Our Leaders

Laura McRae-Hitchcock’s art moves between realism and abstract, much the way she treasures both being at home and the adventure of travel. An award winning painter and co-founder of Wild Hair Adventures, Laura has taught painting workshops for over 15 years. She calls a barrier island near Charleston, SC home, sharing it with her husband and a sweet cocker spaniel named Gunner. In addition to spending time with her children and first grandchild, Laura’s idea of fun is exploring new places and ideas, collecting lovely sticks, rocks and shells, and gathering with friends to make art and share meals and stories. “Say yes to as many opportunities as you can. I think Mary Oliver says it best: ‘tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?'”

Pam Goode is a mosaic artist, writer, founder of Wild Hair Adventures and the former Mosaic Art Retreats, and founding partner of Ciel Gallery. An avid traveler, Pam is endlessly inspired by unfamiliar surroundings where every sight and feeling is new. “I feel everything differently, and it deepens both my awareness and my goals. There’s no greater gift than to walk into an unfamiliar setting and be transformed.” A lifelong writer, Pam has been creating mosaics for 21 years, always with a concentration on color. “I’m ridiculously shy for an adult and have always communicated through art. Raucous art. Happy art. Art that pours out every thought and feeling and passion. It’s what we’re here for.”
