Bliss Out on the South Carolina Coast
Join us for a week of art practice on beautiful Pawleys Island. Room cost covers your sleeping space, sheets and towels, an ocean for your front yard and the marsh (with private dock) in your back yard, parking, inspiration from natural surroundings, great walks, time with like-minded souls, arty conversation, group shopping and cooking, and plenty of time and space to dream. Meals are communal or on your own. Both shared and private rooms are available; prices vary depending on room size and amenities. NOT INCLUDED: Food or transportation.
Pawleys Island is a barrier reef island connected to the mainland by a short bridge, less than four miles long and often one house deep. The permanent population numbers 110, and several of the houses in the Historic District date to the 18th century. The beach is much loved for its laid-back vibe and casual atmosphere. The island is residential only, but the surrounding area has plenty of restaurants, bait shops, kayak rentals, grocery stores, and Brookgreen Gardens. Pawleys is located 22 miles south of Myrtle Beach International Airport (shuttle transportation available), or four hours by car from Charlotte.

What to Bring
Flip flops, beach attire, sunscreen, sun glasses, beach towel, art-making stash.
Food
We usually group cook, taking turns. We’ll pre-arrange the first night, and then everybody signs up for subsequent nights. This is not required, and I’m sure non-cooks can find other ways to participate. There are several grocery stores in the Pawleys area, and we advise that you place an order and drive through for pickup.
Good to Know
This retreat is for all skill levels, but best for those comfortable working with minimal support. No formal instruction will be given, although we’ll have show and tell each day and the opportunity to talk about our work and what we’re working towards.
House is on 2 levels with stairs
No Smoking in the house or on porches
No Pets
No turpentine (kind products only)
We’ll Be There!

Pam Goode is a mosaic artist, writer, founding partner of Ciel Gallery, and founder of Mosaic Art Retreats and Wild Hair Adventures. An avid traveler, Pam is endlessly inspired by unfamiliar surroundings where every sight and awareness is new. “I feel everything differently, and it deepens my awareness — and then of course the ability to communicate my own transformation though art thrills me.” A lifelong writer, Pam has been creating mosaics for 21 years, always with a concentration on color. “I’m ridiculously shy for an adult and have always communicated through art. Raucous art. Happy art. Art that pours out every thought and feeling and passion. It’s what we’re here for.”

Laura McRae-Hitchcock’s art moves between realism and abstract, much the way she treasures both being at home and the adventure of travel. An award winning painter and co-founder of Wild Hair Adventures, Laura has taught painting workshops for over 15 years. She calls a barrier island near Charleston, SC home, sharing it with her husband and a sweet cocker spaniel named Gunner. In addition to spending time with her children and first grandchild, Laura’s idea of fun is exploring new places and ideas, collecting lovely sticks, rocks and shells, and gathering with friends to make art and share meals and stories. “I love how exciting it is to see new things, experience different foods and cultures, meet new people … it definitely influences my work. Sharing a bit of my life with other artists makes it exponentially more fun!”
