Bliss Out on the South Carolina Coast

Join us for a week of art practice on beautiful Pawleys Island. Room cost covers your sleeping space, sheets and towels, beach and marsh access, parking, inspiration from natural surroundings, great walks, time with like-minded souls, arty conversation, group shopping and cooking, and plenty of time and space to dream. Meals are communal or on your own. Both shared and private rooms are available; prices vary depending on room size and amenities. NOT INCLUDED: Food or transportation.

Pawleys Island is a barrier reef island connected to the mainland by a short bridge, less than four miles long and often one house deep. The permanent population numbers 106, and several of the houses in the Historic District date to the 18th century. The beach is much loved for its laid-back vibe and casual atmosphere. The island is residential only, but the surrounding area has plenty of casual and excellent restaurants, bait shops, kayak rentals, grocery stores, and Brookgreen Gardens. Pawleys is located 22 miles south of Myrtle Beach International Airport (shuttle transportation available), or four hours by car from Charlotte.

Our Old-Pawleys-style three-story rambling house on the marsh features two full wrap-around porches with lots of chairs and two large work tables, dock with floating dock attached, pool, large kitchen, washer/dryer, outdoor shower, 3 minutes walk to beach, sitting room, eight bedrooms, one dorm room with 5 single beds and one queen, and six and a half bathrooms. Bring your own beach chair, if desired.

We’ll Be There!

Pam Goode is a mosaic artist, writer, founding partner of Ciel Gallery, and founder of Mosaic Art Retreats and Wild Hair Adventures. An avid traveler, Pam is most inspired by being in unfamiliar surrounds where every sight, every thought, is new. “I see everything differently — feel everything differently — and the ability to communicate my own transformation though art thrills me.” A lifelong writer, Pam has been creating mosaics for nineteen years, always with a concentration on color. “I want the leaps, the brazen, the WAKE-UP raucous combinations that stop you in your tracks and make you rethink your life and where you’re going.”

Laura in Ireland

Laura McRae Hitchcock has been painting for over 30 years. She was a partner artist and teacher with Ciel Gallery and recent Artist in Residence at Olive Stack Gallery in Listowel, Ireland. Additionally, she is a 2016 participant in the nationally celebrated ArtPop program and grant recipient from the Arts and Science Council. “I try to get to the heart of the matter … my heart, that is. I’ve given up trying to be perfect, and instead I focus on finding that space where my heart speaks with paint. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t, but wow, what a ride it is!”
